Inherited It!
‘Inherited It’ is a visual narrative on women acquiring equal property rights in a predominantly male society. It showcases the sex discrimination that begins right at home and in one’s upbringing. It also points to how a woman is looked at, as a temporary property of the house and a male’s subordinate. Legal rights being one of the remedies to inch us closer to a gender-egalitarian society.

The comic is a part of the anthology Spirit and the Word that aims to educate the readers about the essence of the Indian Constitution. It was a project given by Manipal Law School, which got the book published and disturbed it amongst lawyers, judges and other young audience. With an intention to familiarize the reader with basic legal terminology, even if the subject of civics is not of their interest. The Constitution is a non-fictional, written document, which is made easier through a fictional story on how ‘Equality’ becomes a fundamental right.
As an artist and a designer, I believe that a piece of work is relevant to both its creator and the viewer. Yes, we have The Constitution! and it is quite literally inscribed in a book. But when I look beyond the existing laws, I understand that the Constitution of India stands as evidence to the intellectual evolution of mankind. It is a example of how we are constantly trying to set things right
